foodNow 2010

At the foodNow inaugural event, 297 guests began the evening on the rooftop of the historic Stowe Building in the West Bottoms. They shared in regional appetizers, libations, music and a silent auction. As the sun set, the diners took their place at the table and dined at one long table in the street on three courses of local food donated by area growers and prepared by some of our best local chefs.

The event attracted national attention and was recognized as one of the top 20 designs of 2010 by the KC Star Magazine for our streetscape.

Last year we leveraged community support to raise just over $27,000 split between our three beneficiaries: Greater Kansas City Food Policy Coalition, Kansas City Center for Urban Agriculture (now Cultivate KC) and Kansas City Community Gardens.

We garnered an additional $34,000 of support through in-kind donations of time, talents and goods. All of the food and beverages served as well as the chefs' time were all donated by local providers, growers and restaurants, which is unprecedented for a local event!

The foodNow event is definitely new and unique and has the chance to be a model for other communities. We are fostering new connections for healthy change to our local food system.
